LSEN LIBRARY ed September 15, 1955 Vol. 1 July — 1955 No. 1 AUGUSTANA COLLEGE CENTENNIAL FUND PROGRESS REPORT To date the Centennial Appeal office has received reports from 131 congregations. 109 of these have committed themselves to the suggested plan for congregational giving. 'This means that they will try to give the equivalent of 25% of their 1955 synodical budget to the Augustana Centennial Fund each year for 5 years, beginning in 1955. The total annual goal for these 109 congregations is $49,359.05. 9 congregations have adopted the suggested plan to begin in 1956. Their total annual goals amount to $5,548.75. In 4 congregations the church councils have decided to submit to the members of the congregations the proposition that they par-ticipate in the Augustana College Centennial Fund Appeal, begin-ning in 1957. (All these congregations have large building projects to finance this year and next.) Their annual goals for Augustana would total $5,597.14. The total goals of the above 122 congregations amount to $60,504.94. 5 church councils have decided to refer Augustana's Centennial Appeal to their next annual meetings. 2 congregations have decided to send in what they have left in their treasuries after meeting their adopted budgets in 1955. 1 congregation has postponed participation until a local building project is completed. 1 congregation has de-cided not to participate in the Appeal. The high percent of favorable action is both gratifying and in-spiring. As of this date, July 10, less than one-half of the congre-gations have reported, and sixty percent of the goal of $100,000.00 annually from the congregations seems assured. However, much work remains to be done to reach the goal we have set for congregational giving. We want to encourage the re-maining congregations to have their meetings as soon as possible to take up Augustana's Centennial Fund Appeal. And we ask that the pastors or the secretaries report the results to us as soon as decisions have been made. The favorable crop condition prevailing throughout most areas of our territory would suggest that it is unwise to postpone action. Rather we should think of this Appeal as affording us a fine oppor-tunity to give to God a special thank-offering for the great blessings He showers upon us. We express our sincere thanks to all pastors, church councils and members, committee members and the many friends of Augus-tana who have helped to launch this important ingathering of capital funds for Augustana College.
