Ann Mundelein writes to her sister, Clara Smith, on February 25, 1927, to say that the Chinese have asked that the school to be turned over to them entirely. After the Chinese New Year, Ann opened the school again and soon afterward the Chinese clergymen requested control of the school. Ann writes that this is unlikely because the majority of the school's funds come from America, which makes closure a more likely option. At the bottom of the first page Ann notes the recent change in the "Russian Red propaganda." According to Ann, trouble is now promoted between Chinese and all foreigners, no longer limited to simply anti-christian sentiment. Ann writes about the transition over the past few years from her carefree time of "parties and ... language study" to nothing but problems, "first war, then labor troubles." Before closing the letter out Ann comments on the demand for ships sailing to America. She anticipates leaving on the S.S. McKinley on July 2nd and has heard "boats leaving Shanghai during June and July are booked to the limit."
