Millie Thorson writes to Elias Johnstad on September 15, 1918, eight weeks after he left to fight in Europe. Millie begins by discussing the harvest as the busy time of threshing is underway, made even more so as more people leave for the war. Millie comments that she hopes Elias is able to obtain more training once in Europe, because it appeared he received no training stateside. Millie writes that a recent dinner with friends reminded her of times past with Elias and caused her to miss him to the point of tears. The included photos are referred to in the letter but only one is explained. The image depicting construction is of Corlbergs' new building. Millie mentions others from the Sisseton area whom have left for the war and other recent war related events. She reports that Thorwald Olson, a reverend from Augsburg, has given up his congregation and began training to join the war effort as an Army pastor. This news is followed by a few questions relating to acquiring a Lutheran service while in the Army. Millie ends the letter by wishing Elias well in English and Norwegian. The post-script concludes on page ten. Here Millie reviews recent local hunting activity.
