This is a part of the larger Samuel DeForest Woodford Collection, available at the Center for Western Studies. Samuel Woodford served nearly the entire Civil War as a member of Company I, 154th Regiment, New York State Volunteers. The collection consists of 65 letters, mostly to his wife during 1863-1864, and a short journal in which he details his escape from a Confederate prison in October 1863.
