The Froiland Science Complex houses the Natural Sciences Division and consists of two parts. The newest part is the new wing of science research labs and collaborative classroom space. The original part is the renovated and incorporated Gilbert Science Center. The two parts are brought together in an aesthetic design with striking blue and gold glass panels and featuring an interior courtyard. Open study spaces, glassed-in collaborative spaces, and faculty offices adjoin technology-enhanced, student-centered classrooms and laboratories that come together to put science on display. The Froiland Science Complex is named for Dr. Sven Froiland (1922-1998) who led the initiative to building the original Gilbert Science Center and was chair of the Natural Sciences Division for 20 years. The Gilbert Wing (formerly Gilbert Science Center) is named for Gerhard and Sophia Gilbert. The Schultz Biology Center is named for Greg '74 and Karen '75 Shultz. The Elmen Wing is named in memory of James W. Elmen '60 and in honor of Eloise Elmen '61 and daughters Renee Elmen '83 and Rebecca Lam. The Mikkelson Family Auditorium is named in honor of Herbert and Dorothy Mikkelson by their children Karen '73 and Dr. Craig '73 Pfeifer, Dr. Corrine '72 and Dr. Greg Ganske, Claire '84 and Dr. Paul '84 Rud, Kirsten and Timothy Ford.
