Ground was broken in the fall of 1967 for two identical eight-story dormitories; one to house men and one for women. Dedicated on October 7, 1969, each of the Twin Towers accommodated 306 students. Towers West became Lawrence M. Stavig Hall, named for the president of Augustana College from 1943-1965, on May 9, 1973 at the Awards Day program. The air conditioned residence hall includes a lounge, music practice rooms, laundry facilities, recreation areas, and storage space.
