The Nils Petter Swanson Papers, available at the Center for Western Studies, contain correspondence, a mining company paybook, newspaper clippings, photographs, and miscellaneous documents collected by and/or pertaining to Nils Swanson and his family. Nils Petter Svensen (Swanson) was born in Sweden in May 1843. He immigrated to America in 1869 and worked in the copper mines of Michigan's Upper Peninsula, near Calumet. The rest of his family joined him in 1873.
