The Frederick J. Putzier Collection, available at the Center for Western Studies, is comprised of the letters written by Henry Mai, from Fort Abraham Lincoln to his cousin. They were written in German after General George Custer's Yellowstone Expedition in 1873. The letters were translated by Elke Putzier, and the collection contains a copy of this translation. A photograph of Mai is also included.
