The C. E. Van Norman, Jr. Collection, available at the Center for Western Studies, is comprised mostly of correspondence. The majority of these letters are between Stephen Riggs and his second wife Annie B. (Ackley) Riggs, along with additional correspondences between Annie Riggs and others. Some of the Riggs children, including Robert Riggs and Isabella Williams, also have correspondence in this collection. There are also some unattributed Native American mission letters and the Civil War correspondence of John S. Mitchell and others to Angelina Mitchell included in the collection. Additional materials include: army discharge forms and correspondences of Justus Stevens, Ruth McConihe, and the Mathews, Trickle, Porter, and Farnham families. Geographically, much of this material is tied to Illinois.
