The Martha Berdahl Wangsness Collection, available at the Center for Western Studies, consists of diaries, correspondence, clippings, ledgers, and other materials relating to the Berdahl family. In 1873, the Berdahls joined ten other Norwegian families from Minnesota to settle in the Dakota Territory in the area between what is now Baltic and Garretson, South Dakota. Martha (Berdahl) Wangsness' siblings include: John Berdahl, James O. Berdahl, Clarence A. Berdahl, Jennie [Berdahl] Rolvaag, Christine Berdahl, Ida Berdahl, and Tilda Berdahl.
