Boy Scout troops in formation march in a parade on Phillips Avenue in downtown Sioux Falls, South Dakota. The parade celebrates Major Joe Foss, World War II Marine fighter Ace. On both sides of the street large crowds gather to view the parade. Each section is separated by a boy scout holding the group's leadership flag. Strings of red, white and blue banners hang between buildings. Many shop signs, including the State Theater marquee are visible. The Historic Sioux Falls Slide Collection, available at the Center for Western Studies, consists of nearly 3,000 photographic slides of Sioux falls and the surrounding area from the 1860s - 1970s. These images depict various historic periods, locations, items, personalities and events. The collection is divided into 16 different sections.
