Catherine Watson to visit in September
The Augustana Library Associates presents
author Catherine Watson on Thursday,
September 27, 2007 at 7:30 p.m. in Kresge
Recital Hall.
Nationally-known columnist Catherine Watson
has collected a selection of her travel essays in
her new book, Roads Less Traveled: Dispatches
from the Ends of the Earth. From l 978 to 2004
Watson was the Minneapolis Star Tribune's
chief travel columnist and photographer. The essays in this book
cover thirty years and seven continents.
A finalist for the l 8th annual Minnesota Book Award, Watson's
writing is described as vivid, lyrical, and always sensitive. She
leads readers beyond exotic locations and into the rich terrain of
the human heart. Not only does she bring the world to us, Watson
does ·so with a Midwestern perspective, providing depth through
historical details and enchanting language that is both poetic and
storybook in nature. As reviewer Sarah Watstein observes,
Watson "shares life stories, reflections, and insights on cultures the
world over."
