(Photo by Wang) Peter Pan Opens Tonight Thursday, May 2, 1963 THE AUGUSTANA MIRROR Vol. 44, No. 24 Band Performs "On The Green This Sunday at 4 T h e Augustana Varsity Band will present a new fea-ture in campus activities in its "Concert on the Green" Sun-day, May 5, at 4 p.m. at the east end of the Commons. An out-of-doors concert has not been given by Augustana bands in recent years, and this program is designed to . recapture some of the Ameri-can tradition of the Sunday afternoon concert in the park which was popularized in the late 19th and early 20th cen-turies by municipal and pm-fessional bands. Works to be programmed include the Polka and Fugue from Schwanda, the Bagpiper by Weinberger, the Russian Sailor's Dance by Gliere, An American Week End by Mor-rissey, and the famous march, On the Mall by Goldman. Sen-ior assistant Gerald Saetveit will conduct the band in Sal-vation Is Created, by Tsches-nokoff and Awake from Die Meistersinger, by Wagner The student body and pub-lic are invited to attend this new presentation of the Aug-ustana Varsity Band. Direct-ors are Dr. Leland Li]]ehaug and Mr. James Ode. In case of rain the concert will be held in the Augustana gym. Added feature of this Drama Department production is the addition of matinee perform-ances primarily for the bene-fit of school children who wish to see the play. Because of the nature of the play, special emphasis has been given to parents, teachers, and chil-dren in scheduling these per-gormances. The play will run on May 2, 3, 4, 6, 7, and 8 with the special matinee perform-ances at 4:30 on May 3, 4, 6, and 8. Starring in the play are Kate Kilen as Peter Pan, Kirk Landman as Captain Hook, and Bev Hegna, Jeff Sweet-man, and Peter Gregory as the Darling children. A Choir Presents Concert Sunday Under the direction of Dr. Arnold Running, the "A" choir will present a concert at Our Saviour's Lutheran Church on May 5 at 8:00 p.m. The program will contain the Magnificat by Bach and sev-eral other numbers. The choir will also sing for the American Lutheran Church convention in Aber-deen on Monday, May 13, at 7:30 p.m. Included in this con-cert will be selections from the 1963 tour and others. Tomorrow afternoon ap-proximately 90 Augustana students, representing ever ‘, ganization on campus, ant. i0 faculty members will tray- A. to Lake Shetek for the an-lual Leadership Workshop ,veekend. Lowell Noteboom, 1963 workshop chairman, describes his weekend as a time of op-portunity for all those attend-ing. It provides an opportun-ity for learning, an opportun-ity for student leaders to ex-press their views, new ideas, and suggestions, in addition o relaxation and fun. Topics chosen for discussion on Saturday morning and the student leaders conducting them are as follows: "Do We Have a Unique Responsibili-ty as Leaders on a Christian Campus?", Paul Rogers; "Re-ligious Life at Augustana, Does It Need Improvement?", Wayne Weber; "How Can We Communicate with the Non- Active Student?", Sylvia Lee. Following these separate dis-cussions, Mark Gilbertson will lead a panel and discus-sion on the ASA constitution. Saturday afternoon topics and leaders are "Does the Ad-ministration Exert too Much Control on Student Leaders?", Obed Nelson; "Is There Real-ly a Social Problem on Cam- Informal organization has taken place of an Academic Honor Society for senior stu-dents who have distinguished themselves in their studies. Officially approved by the fac-ulty in a meeting before the Easter holidays, t h e first group of seventeen has been selected. The purpose of this organi-zation is the recognition and promotion of sound scholar-ship at Augustana. Member-ship is limited to those stu-dents in good standing who pus?", Soni Nelson; "How Can Student Leaders Help Create An Esprit de Corps on Campus?", Barb Jorgenson. Dr. Arthur Olson will give have earned a cumulative 2.5 honor point ratio. Seniors who have been se-lected as the first members of this group include Margaret Anderson, Mavis Bergan, Dona Cook, Rosalie Erickson, Ardith Hensch, Sherry Kap-plinger, Marilyn Knudson, Karen Langpap, Norma Lun-de, Judy Miller, David Nelson, Sandra Nelson, Eunice Nico-lai, Mavis Ortman, Jean Sort-eberg, Carolyn Thiessen, and Clara Wang. the opening address Friday evening on the topic, "What About That Adjective—Chris-tian?" The banquet address speaker on Saturday evening will be Dr. Lucy Fryxell. Sunday morning worship ser-vices will be conducted by Mr. Limburg. Other faculty members attending the work-shop are Dean Martinson, Dean Thompson, Dean Hong, Miss Hanson, Pastor Pete, and Dr. Paape. As a result of this leader-ship workshop, we hope sev-eral new applicable ideas will be uncovered, and can in turn be used to better our campus life here at Augie. Student Body Features Foreign Student Speaker Featured speaker for this Friday's Student Assembly will be Ademela "Gabe" Og-unleye. A senior foreign ex-change student from Lagos, Nigeria, Ademela has attend-ed Augie the past two years. Ademela has chosen "Tradi-tional African Music as Con-trasted to Western Music" as his topic. All students are urged to attend. A student worship ser-vice will be held at 11:00 a.m. Sunday in the gym. Pastor Peterson will con-duct the service. Honor Society Formed For Senior Students
