Final Balloting for Sweetheart To Be Held Tomorrow Carrying out the tradi-tional Valentine hearts and lace theme in decorations of red and white will be the annual Sweetheart formal banquet, sponsored by the Social Board. It will be held Saturday, February 13, at 6:30, in the three-in-one room of the Commons Building. Featured on the program following the banquet are Al Fonzo and his Cosmopolitans, a semi - professional panto-mime group. They have made many appearances in the Sioux Falls area. Marge Fjell-stad will present her interp-retation of some Valentine poems. The highlight of the pro-gram is the crowning of Augie's Valentine Sweet-heart, whose identity will not be revealed until then. Artie Montgomery will em-cee the program which will also feature a surprise event — the appearance of past Sweethearts. Tickets are on sale for the last time today. They are $2.00 per couple, and may be pur-chased from social board members. Recently elected by the stu-dent body are nine girls who are this year's Sweetheart candidates. Final elections will be held tomorrow, and the Sweetheart elected from the nine candidates will be crowned during the program of the banquet. Candidates from the senior class are Betty Jean Christen-sen, Kathy Hanson, and Lois Lyman. Betty Jean, better known as "Beer, has been a counselor for two years and has served as class secretary. Kathy Hanson served as coun-selor in East Hall last year and is editor of the EDDA this year. Lois Lyman was homecoming attendant this year and is a counselor in Tuve Hall. Junior class candidates are Sandy Haugen and Joanne Stensaas. Sandy is a cheer-leader and was NCC pep queen last year. Joanne has been active on the Social Board. Ruth Beatty and Gwen Roseth are sophomore class candidates. Ruth is a newly-elected member of the Social Board. Gwen is a cheerleader and a member of the Social Board. Candidates from the fresh-man class are Kay Nielham, who is a frosh cheerleader, and Karen Reemts, who is an EDDA queen candidate. At left are the Sweetheart. candidates. Angie Hosts Concert Band Festival; Alumnus to Direct Grand Concert Chi Epsilon Sponsors Dean's List Dinner Augustana's concert band this weekend hosts its an-nual Concert Band Festival on the campus. Scheduled to run through February 12 and 13, the fegtival will be spent to a large degree in rehearsals of the 150 high school students and direct-ors representing South Da-kota, Iowa, and Minnesota, with the guest festival con-ductor, alumnus James Ber-dahl. —Festival Concert-- The highlight of the Con-cert Band Festival will be the Grand Con-cert, which features t h e Festival Band playing under the direction of Mr. Ber- - dahl. The concert w i 11 be held at 7:30 p.m. in the Augustana gym. The Augustana Band will also present a number dur-ing the concert under the direction of Mr. Teuber, featuring Mr. T. Herman Keahey as oboe soloist. Guest conductor Berdahl is Director of Bands at the Uni-versity of California. Since his appointment at the University of California he has brought the band to new heights, highlighted by i t s appearance at t h e World's Fair in Brussels, Belgium. —Clinics Slated— Band clinics will also be presented to the students and directors by guest cli-nicians Ed Marty and Ar-deen Foss. Mr. Foss will be in charge of a panel discussion, "Why Not Double Reeds?" Mr. Foss is widely recognized as an outstanding music educator and woodwind expert. Mr. Marty will present an afternoon workshop on brass instruments. To honor Augustana women meriting positions on the Dean's List, Chi Ep-silon, senior women's hon-orary, will sponsor its an-nual banquet on Tuesday, February 16. The event is sponsored each year by the organization in recognition of academic at-tainment as evidenced by a grade point average of two points or higher for the se-mester. Featured speaker this year will be Miss Marilyn Olsen, Augustana prof e s s o r of English, and alumna of Chi Epsilon, according to co-chairmen Barb Routledge and Karen Anderson. The Augustana College Board meets today and to-morrow, Feb. 11-12, on the campus for their midwinter conference. The meetings got underway at 1:30 p.m. today in the board room of the Commons. One of the main items of business slated for the meet- A valentine theme will pro-vide a background setting for the dinner at which the hon-orees will be guests. Arranging the decorations for the event are Marilyn Gottschalk, Pat Jorgenson, and Jo Offerdahl. Invitations are being prepared by Kathy Hanson, Lois Bahnson, Shar-on Sievers and Marlene Flied-er. Carol Twedt and Kay Lambertson are in charge of place cards. The banquet is being held in the 3-in-1 room of the Commons at 5:30 p.m., in order that students can make use of their meal-books. ings is a report by Mr. Willard Archer from the American City Bureau.
