1 ' 1 r Augie Grads Take Parishes Next Year Eight Augustana graduates of 1949 will graduate from Luther seminary in June and have ac-cepted calls to various parishes in North and South Dakota, Minne-sota and Wisconsin. The graduates and their par-ishes are: Marvin Berkeland, Nevis, Minn.; Gordon Carls, Louisburg, Minn.; Wallace Hunstad, Grenora, Minn.; Vernon Keszler, Langdon, N. D.; Ray Melheim, Souris, N. D.; Dave Natwick, Centerville, S. D.; Ar-nold Olson, Clam Falls, Wis.; and Mark Svaren, Sherman,' S. D. Bob Taft Club Starts Work On Campus Plans for the chartering of a Taft-for-president club are under way, according to Ralph 0. Hill-gren, state publicity chairman for the Taft campaign. Gordon Dahl has been named president of the Taft club on campus, while Dick Enright will fill the job of secretary-treasurer. Buttons, window stickers and literature will be made available in the near future. The next meet-ing of the club will be announced in the next few days. A meeting was held Wednesday when all those interested in the Taft campaign met to discuss plans. According to the committee, it is hoped that the organization, the first of its kind on the Augu-stana campus, will intensify. stu-dent interest in the primary race as well as strengthen South Da-kota's support of Senator Taft. Eight Seniors Honored in EDDA Eight Augustana seniors were presented last night at the EDDA. party as the representative sen-iors for 1952. The four women selected were: Lois Bachman, Lois Sorteberg, Delores Bue and Bonnie Greguson. Men picked were Chuck Jarratt, Bob Nervig, Phil Natwick and Le-roy Stadem. The students were selected in a special student body election in October. Martinson Announces Dorm Counselors Dorm counselors in Women's dorm for next year have been an-nounced by dean of women Fern I. Martinson. Joan Chilson and LaVonne Campbell will be counselors on first floor. Marjorie Wagnild and Virginia Johnson will be the second floor counselors. Irene Brandenburg will be the counselor for third floor. USMC Recruiters To :Visit Campus An officer procurement team of the U. S. Marine corps will be on campus Friday to contact any men interested in the platoon leaders class or the officer candi-date class. Next Saturday is the deadline for applications. Thus all recruit-ing documents must be completed next Friday. Those interested are urged to contact dean of men, Henry M. Helgen, before Friday. Dormitory Women Pick Council Members Women's dorm officers for next year were selected at an election held last week. LaVonne Campbell was elected to the job of president. The senior representative will be MarJean Johnson, while Char-lotte Erickson will represent the juniors. The sophomores will be allotted two members due to the size of the class. They are Joan Warken-thien and Marlys Erickson. Augie Gamma Deltans Hold Joint Picnic Augustana Gamma Delta mem-bers joined with members from South Dakota university and South Dakota State for a picnic at Terrace park last Sunday. This was the annual Gamma Delta meet for the three schools. A large attendance was noted, according to Don Claussen, Augie chapter president. Gamma Delta Groups Holds Two Picnics Picnics have been on the agenda for the Beta Kappa, chapter of the Gamma Delta during the past week. - Sunday, May 4, the chapter met with the groups from South Da-kota State college and the Univer-sity for a joint picnic at Terrace park. After games, a picnic sup-per was served and the university was in charge of a vesper serv-ice. Tuesday night, the members met for a picnic at Sherman park. At this meeting it was de-cided to purchase songbooks for the Beta Kappa chapter. The next meeting will be May 20, in the Science Lounge with Rev. C. Schleicher, Memorial Lutheran, leading discussion on Christian courtship and marriage. Press Banquet To Feature "Ole" Award Members of the Augustana Press club will hold their annual spring banquet Tuesday evening at Stacy's cafe in downtown Sioux Falls at 6:30 p. m. Miles Browne will be toast-master for the event, which is the biggest meeting of the Press club during the year. Presentation of the MIRROR "Ole" will be made during the banquet by Bob Steensma, editor of the paper. The award is given annually to the junior who has done the best work on the,• MIR-ROR during the year. Previous "Ole" winners were Tom Sheeley in 1949 and Bill Til-lottson in 1951. All those interested in attending the banquet are urged to contact president Sharonne Graff, vice president Laurie Bachman or sec-retary Gordy Dahl before Mon-day. Price of tickets for the banquet is $1.50. Jr.-Sr. Fete To Be Held Friday Night Sogge. Chuck Thissell is head of the food committee, while Annette Weisenburger and Kirstine Stjern-holm are planning the program. EDDA Autograph Party Set For Thursday Augie students got their 1952 EDDAS at the annual EDDA party held in the recreation room of the Women's dorm last night. The book, dedicated to Prof. Richard Guderyahn, music in-structor, contains 140 pages, four more than last year. The editor for next year, Laurie Bachman, was presented, and she introduced the people who will fill the major positions on the staff next year. The cover is blue and gold, con-taining the newly-adopted seal of the college and was designed by Mary Lee Syverson. Ogden Dal-rymple, art instructor, created the seal for the college several years ago. Selections of the honor athlete and representative seniors were also revealed. Those who did not receive their books may do so in the ASA of-fice in the gym lobby on Monday or Tuesday mornings. Dr. Robert Boyd To Interview Pre-Sem Men Dr. Robert Boyd of Luther theo-logical seminary in St. Paul, will be on campus Monday to inter-view men interested in attending the seminary. Dr. 'Boyd will address the stu-dent body during chapel period. He will be available for inter-views all through *the remainder of the day. Upperclassmen will be given first chance to talk with him. Those wishing to talk with Dr. Boyd are asked to contact Bob Nervig, religion board chairman, for appointments. Ronken, Pierson Join Cadets; Go in June Bob Ronken, senior from Sioux Falls, will leave immediately after school is out for Naval Cadet training at Pennsacola, Florida. He Was to have reported May 4, but was given an extension until June 5: Rick Pierson, another Sioux Falls senior, entering the Air Force Cadets, will leave soon after graduation. Syttende Mai Elections On Tuesday Polls will be open Tuesday for the voting on seven candidates for Queen Inga and King Ole, royalty to reign over the Syttende Mai Festival next Saturday. The se-lection will be made from a lot of 18 fellows and 17 girls. Voting will be done in order of preference of the seven candi-dates. The first place selection getting 10 points, second place 6 points with seventh place getting one point. The following girls have been chosen as candidates for Queen Inga: Margaret Sandbaken, Glads; Hazel Sogge, EDDA; Den-ise Felhaber, band; Charlotte Erickson, A choir; Joan Warken-thien, Kappas; Ardis Eide, East hall; Colette Leonard, Delts; Marilyn Holly, Webs; Pat R. The Syttende Mai festival will open at 3:00 p. m. Saturday with a faculty-student softball game. At 5:00 p. m. the Sioux Falls Nor-wegian dancers will perform in the stadium followed by the coro-nation. A smorgasbord will be held in the cafeteria at 6:00 p. rn. Tick-ets for the smorgasbord will be available Monday. Group games will be held in the stadium at 7:30 p. m. followed by a movie at 9:00 p. m. KAUR Announces Program Changes Radio station KAUR announced several program changes this week. Buell Donaldson will be disc jockey on "Night Watch" from 10:00-11:00 p. m. The program formerly broadcast at an earlier hour has also changed names. Phil Natwick is presenting a Series of "Senior Portraits" on Tuesday nights at 9:00 p. m., in-terviewing a prominent senior each week. . Student body president Delores Wennblom will begin a series of student council reports to the stu-dent body on Thursdays at 9:00 p. m. A women's show with Mary Ann Hultgren behind the mike is scheduled to hit the air soon, ac-cording to Jim Wylie, program manager. A change in station broadcast-ing hours has been made. The sta-tion will now go on the air at 7:00 p. m. and will sign off at 11:00 p. m. 'Medium' Rehearsal Dona Carlson and Joanne Maurstad go through one of the cli-mactic scenes in the opera 'The Medium' which opened at the Little Theatre last night.
