Trump's runaway victory in South Dakota's general election was as predictable as ' his electoral college win was shocking. Few prognostictators gave him a shot. The polls and betting markets depicted him as a clear underdog. The New York Times gave Trump a IS-percent chance. Still, he won, and members of the Augustana community responded. For government professor Joel Johnson, uncertainty ';"ill be the theme of Trump's tenure going forward. 'Tm not sure anyone has a good read on it;' Johnson said. "Is he truly a dealmaker? Is he the sort of person who will make deals with whoever in Congress might [agree] with him? In 2014 it turned into a national referendum on ending sexual assault on college campuses, spearheaded by the White House. Today, the It's On Us campaign exists on more than 300 campuses. And, as of October 2015, Augustana is one of them. The Augustana chapter oflt's on Us was made possible by a $300,000 Department of Justice grant that extends until September 2018. In the year It's On Us has been active at Augustana, program coordi-nator Lindsey Roberts and sophomore student advocates Madeline Jenkins and MacKenzie Brandt have led the group. Though the first year of the program has been mostly a trial run to build student interest, Roberts said she's excited to network with the community and continue to spread the word about It's On Us. "Getting to know students in this new setting has been really rewarding;' Roberts said. "One of our main goals is to get more students involved than last year. Our student advocates really make or break the program:' For their part, both Jenkins and Brandt share Roberts' passion for the program. After connecting with the former Solberg Hall director last year as freshmen, the two decided to spread awareness about sexual assault on college campuses by doing more than attending the occasional It's On Us event. "As students, we make the biggest impact when it comes to preventing this issue;' Jenkins See IT'S ON US, page 3 Unseemly behavior toward joggers · not un·common JACOB BELGUM jbbelgum 13@ole.augie.edu A couple year~ ago at Augustana, a IIl:an made a habit of running behind female joggers, according to Director of Campus SafetY ,Rick Tupper. That man ran with no clothes on. This is to say that Campus Safety's recent email about a man videotaping a female jogger from his car on campus shou ldn' t come as a huge surprise. It was the third report of similar behavior relayed to Campus Safety this semester. The lesson, according to Rick Tupper Tupper: Be aware of your surroundings while running around-and-near campus. "The one thing about Sioux Falls is Sioux Falls is generally a pretty safe community, but that doesn't mean that bad things don't happen;' Tupper said. The recent Campus Safety notice highlighted four steps students should take when jogging to minimize their chance of an incident. Among them is the idea of not wearing two earbuds, which can make runners less aware of sounds around them. Senior Maria Lavelle said she will no longer wear two earbuds during her .early-morning runs. "That's one thing I'm going to change now, actually, because I never thought about that;' Lavelle said.
