Augustana College Sioux Falls, South Dakota Thursday, Oct. 13, 1977 Vol. 61, No. 4 The first production of this Augustana College Theatre season will be the modern play "Lovers" by Brian Friel. "Lovers" will open Friday, Oct. 14 and run through Tuesday, Oct. 18. The show is under the direction of Prof. Gary Reed. " 'Lovers' is divided into two parts and may be termed a play about winners and losers in love," Reed says. "In the magic of this master-piece the lovers are seen not only in this moment, but in all time — past, present, and future — and we share in their triumphs and dis-asters." The play will be done in a presentational style. Two commentators are on stage speaking without emotion about the events of the play. Heading the cast of winners in love are Nancy Henrickson, Rapid City and Dan May, Sioux Falls. Cast as losers in love are Lori Krogstrand, Custer, and Nick Nelson, Atwater, MN. Charles Hayes, Council Bluffs, IA and Melodi Jensen, Kimballton, IA are the commentators and Margaret Yachel, Circle Pines, MN and Pat Smith, Young America, MN com-plete the cast. Voting for royalty scheduled for Tuesday Augie enrollment down Enrollment for the fall semester at Augustana College stands at 2,228, a small (1.6%) decline from last year's all-time record high student population. This year's student body is the third largest in Augustana history. Figures released by Mrs. Sharon Neish, college registrar, show an increase of 13.5% in graduate students enrolled in Augustana's Master of Arts in Teaching program and a 5.5% jump in the sophomore class. All other class levels experienc-ed minor decreases as did the number of transfer students from other schools. Augustana students this year come from 35 different states, Guam and seven foreign nations. The largest segment of the student body are South Dakotans (56%) with Minnesotans second (22%) and Iowans third (11%). Nearly 65% of the fulltime students are Lutherans but over a dozen other denominations were listed by registrants. Freshmen represent 619 students (down 14 from last year), sophomores 514, juniors 477, seniors 471, post-college 63 and graduate division students 84. Ten students from the coun-tries of Cambodia, Canada, Hong Kong, Kenya, Liberia, Norway and Rodesia are registered for classes. The ratio of teachers to fulltime students at Augustana this year is one teacher for each 14.5 students. In a setting designed to transform the Augustana gym-nasium into an atmosphere reminiscent of a royal courtyard the queen of the college's 54th homecoming celebration will receive her crown. This year's coronation ceremony, planned to fit the Viking Day theme "Return to Glory," will begin at 7 p.m., Fri-day, Oct. 21. A second election will deter-mine which of these seven women will become Augustana's homecoming queen. Voting for royalty will take place in the Commons Tuesday, Oct. 18, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Selected as members of this year's royalty are: Cay Cobb, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Forrest N. Cobb, LeMars, Ia. Cay is majoring in both German and English with the objective of becoming a secondary school teacher. She has been active in the Fellowship of Christian Athletes, German Club and English Club and has won Dean's List and German Honor Society honors. Her interests include tennis, ballet and drawing. Camilla Iseminger is the daughter of the Rev. and Mrs. Leroy Iseminger of Crooks. She has been extremely active in extra-curricular events in-cluding the Madrigal Singers, girls' track, the pep band, Flute Choir, Viking Varieties Shows, co-chairperson of Frosh Varieties, Concert Band, College Choir, and the musical production "Of Thee I Sing." She is the secretary for the stu-dent association and has won Dean's List honors and is a member of Chi Epsilon Honor Society. Cammy is majoring in vocal and instrumental music and hopes to be a music teacher. Renae Lein is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Loren B. Lein of Blue Earth, Minn. During her years at Augie she has been a cheerleader, a member of the Fellowship of Christian Athletes and the Student Congregation. She has been on the Dean's List and was an Awards Day recipient. Her majors are in special education and elemen-tary education with a girls coaching certificate and, of course, she plans to teach. Her hobbies include cross country and downhill skiing and cam-ping. Mary Meester comes from Edina, Minn. Her parents are Mr. and Mrs. Judd Meester who both attended Augie. Extra-curricular activities include membership in the Augustana Nursing Students Association, service as co-chairperson for the Viking Day parade, Women's Senate, Phi Rho Beta Society and the Fellowhip of Christian Athletes. She's been on the Dean'S List and is a member of Chi Epsilon. A nur-sing major, Mary finds relaxa-tion in bicycle riding, skiing, camping and playing the piano. Susan Naylor is the daughter of Kathryn and Robert Naylor of Sioux Falls. She is majoring in German and minoring in physical education with aspirations of teaching German and coaching women's sports. She's been a member of the German Round Singers, presi-dent of the German Club, a var-sity cheerleader, captain of the women's tennis team and has earned honors as a Regents Scholar, and by inclusion on the Dean's List and the German Honor Society. She likes to go bicycling and swimming and enjoys singing, reading and listening to music. Mary Selvik of Waseca, Minn. is the daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Jerry Selvik. Mary has been ac-tive in F.C.A., women's athletics, Women's Senate, as chairper-son for Lutheran Youth Day and as a resident assistant in her dorm. She's been on the Dean's List all four of her years here. Mary is majoring in elementary education and physical educa-tion and plans to teach and coach. Activites which interest here most are playing the piano, handicrafts and all outdoor ac-tivities. Sue Taintor is the daughter of Dr. and Mrs. Wayne Taintor of Marshall, Minn. She has been on the Dean's List and has been active in Concert Choir, the Adelphics Society, Lutheran Youth Encounter, the Student Development Board and the Viking Days entertainment corn-mittee. Sue is majoring in special education and elemen-tary education and plans to teach. She likes singing, playing the guitar, camping, skiing and bike riding.
