Travelling German actors to present Kleist comedy The 1968 Winter Carnival King Todd and Queen Cami crowned Bonita Anderson and Gary Addington tonight to reign over the week-end festivities. Bonita, a music major from Hayti, South Dakota, is a member of A Choir, Alpha Sigma Chi and is a counselor in East Hall. Gary, a member of the varsity basketball squad is from Winona, Minnesota. I hope that the students will go all out to make it a success so that it can become an annual event." These were the words of Jerry Knudson, who along with Pam Pressler, was co-chairmen of Augie's first winter carnival, held just five years ago. At the first winter carnival, January 15-16, 1964, Bette Hart and Jerry Bratberg were crowned Winter Carnival King and Queen by "mystery snowman" Dr. Alfred Hotz. Other highlights included ice hockey, skating, and a society dog sled race won by the Nicks. Five years later, February 14-16, Augie again celebrates Winter Carnival. This year's celebration planned by co-chairmen Nancy Wheeldon and Greg Selle got off to a roaring start with today's pep fest and the coronation of the Carnival King and Queen tonight in the gym. On Monday, students voted for Winter Carnival King and Queen. Candidates for Queen were Joan Berkland, Bonita Anderson, Bev Larson. Ladonna Block, and Jane Torness. Finalists for Winter Carnival King were Gary Addington, Jim Oksol, Rick Moe, Ray Chesnut, and Jack Ward. The sound of The Music Projection . former royalty Cami and Todd . . . kelly green dresses . . . roses ... tierras . . the EXCITING MOMENT .. . all were part of the coronation tonight in the gym. A reception in the Commons Lounge followed the coronation, and then everyone was dancing to the rockin' rhythm of The Library. Those who wish to participate must have at least a 2.0 grade point average. A $ 2.00 registration fee entitles rushees to attend all society rush parties. In order to be eligible for final selection by a society, each rushee must attend at least 4 of the initial rush parties. Each society will somewhat narrow their selections by issuing invitations to the Quadruples, which will be held March 21 and 22 in the Social Science Annex. No rushee may attend more than 4 Quadruples. The societies will then issue invitations to the Preference Desserts. These will be held March 26. No rushee may attend more than two of these parties, regardless of the number of invitations he or she receives. Societies will base their final selection of rushees upon attendance of the Preference Desserts. Notification of acceptance into a society will be made March 27 via campus mail. The Alphas and Kappas will begin spring rush with their party Friday, February 21, in the Bergsaker Recreation Room. The Phi-Rhos and Nicks will follow with their party on Friday, February 28, also in Be rg saker. Chi-Chis will entertain rushees Saturday, March 1, in the gym, and the Glad-Adelphic rush party is scheduled for Sunday, March 2, in the Solberg Recreation Room. Betas and Omegas will host prospective society members February 22 marks the beginning of Augustana's first annual Father-Daughter weekend. Co-chairmen of the 1969 event, Diane Otteman and Jan Locken, have announced the weekend's schedule in a letter sent to all Augie coeds and have sent invitations to their fathers. The events will begin Saturday with an open house from 2 — 4 p.m. in the girls' dorms, houses, and all campus buildings. This will be followed by a punch hour beginning at 5 p.m. in the Commons Lounge. Fathers and daughters will then be honored at a banquet in the cafeteria. The theme of the banquet is "My Heart Belongs to Daddy:" A choice of events is planned following the banquet. There will be entertainment in the Commons Lounge, campus February 14, 1969 Saturday, March 8, in Solberg, followed by the Thetas and Zetas on Sunday, March 9, also in Solberg. The Web rush party will be held Friday, March 14, in Bergsaker. The Delt-Athenian party will conclude the first round of rush parties Sunday, March 16, in the gym. folk groups and movie shorts in the Jabberwock, open game room facilities, and a film, "The Happening," in the GSC Alumni Auditorium. Housing will be available for those fathers staying in Sioux Falls overnight Friday and/or Saturday. Girls are urged to notify the co-chairmen immediately if their fathers will need such accommodations. Sunday morning there will be Student Congregation services in the chapel-gym-nasium at 11 a.m., and open house from 2 — 4 p.m. in girls' houses, dorms, and campus buildings. In order to complete plans for the weekend, the co-chairmen would like to hear from all girls whose fathers plan to attend. Those whose fathers will not be able to attend are encouraged to ask a substitute "father" for the weekend. Sioux Falls, South Dakota 57102 The West German Tournee-theatre will perform the comedy Der Zerbrochene Krug (The Broken Jug) by Heinrich von Kleist Saturday evening at 8 p.m. in the Little Theatre. The traveling company has been in existence nineteen years and is based in Remscheid, West Germany. The leading roles in the play are played by Blanca Blacha and Wilhelm Michael Mund who founded the group. The play concerns determining who broke the jug, a Rull family heirloom. Frau Vol. 50. No. 16. Marthe Rull blames her prospective son-in-law Ruprecht and takes him to court where Adam is the justice. Adam, who wants Fraulein Eve Rull also, actually broke the jug as he was leaving the Rull house. Adam's situation is complicated by the appearance of a government court inspector. Despite his efforts to convict Ruprecht, Adam is found out to be the criminal. Free tickets are available to Augustana students, faculty, and employees.
