the augustana college • mirror sioux falls, south dakota • r. Thursday, May 25, 1967 Sioux Falls, S. D. 57102 Vol. 48, No. 28 ISB revisions committee debates constitution changes Indian student scholarship of $500 established Grads pass education's torch to a new generation Seniors to receive diplomas on June 4 In a brief two hour session of the ISB-student council re-vision committee in Mrs. Huseboe's office, the persons present discussed possibilities of revision in the ISB constitution and rush. One of the topics was a change in ISB membership. This would involve the president of a society being a representative on ISB as well as the immediate past president. The present president would cast the vote for the society. If a society lacks representation at more than three meetings, the society would lose its vote. ANOTHER SUGGESTION coming from this meeting was the formation of a Board of Review consisting of the executive council of ISB and four ISB representatives. This board would arbitrate and/or mediate disputes between societies and questionable or unrepresentative actions of societies. Decisions of this board would be subject to approval by the ISB. The ISB will be undergoing extensive revision next year, handling disciplinary action which until now has been more or less the burden of the ad-ministration. Meetings between the ad-ministration and ISB are being planned for next fall to in-crease communication, pro-mote understanding and clar-ify certain issues pertinent to the societies and the ad-ministration. The revisions will continue to appear when the committee convenes again early in the fall to compile, share and evaluate the ideas they have had during the summer. They would appreciate any sug-gestions and criticisms of the aforementioned items and ideas for next year's rush pro-gram. Please place these sug-gestions in the suggestion box at the Commons desk. Jabberwock nears opening Jabberwock, Augie's latest campus addition, will open officially Sept. 15, 1967, the first day of classes next year. The whole event promises to be quite an experience for all who take part according to manager Arnie Ray. Ray also stated that the designated door opening time is 8:30 p.m. The coffee house will be open only at nights for an opening period of time until further plans are made. The hours are to be determined this summer. The program of entertain-ment for the year is being planned now with something special in J mind for the opening night. The committee hopes to book entertainment for at least one night a week all year. THE INSIDE STRUCTURE is rapidly being transformed into a modern coffee house where relaxation and fun are the key words. With the knocking out . of the center wall, most of the major work (cont. on page 3) An Indian student scholar-ship of $500 was established by Wednesday's student council vote. The association gave a vote of support and confidence to the Student Chest proposal. The Student Chest, in cooperation with the Augustana Indian recreation program committee, will solicite contributions to the yearly fund not to exceed $500 for use in the payment of fees, tuition, room, board or books of the student selected through the regular Augustana scholarship procedure after acceptance at Augustana through the normal admissions channels. THIS SCHOLARSHIP SHALL be used to assist a South Dakota Indian student, who, once he is selected, shall be the yearly recipient of this award not to surpass four years, provided good finances continue. In the event that this student fails to maintain a 2.0 or "C" average at the end of each academic year, another Indian student shall be selected as the recipient. Jim Rye also stated that the Student Chest exceeded its financial goal of $1,500 after the completion of many projects like student pledges, beard shaving, meal book matching and dances. Correction: Ellen Jacobson was elected junior class councilwoman, not Maribeth Anderson as stated in last week's edition. Only finals, the diploma and President Balcer's hand shake separate the seniors from their long awaited ultimate educational step at Augustana—graduation 1967. The Sioux Falls Arena will set the stage for Augustana's 107th graduating class on June 4, at 3 p.m. DR. IRVAMAE APPLEGATE will present the commencement address at the exercises.
